TOMM is currently undertaking a major review of the indicators and acceptable ranges.  This will result in a much more robust model with the formal reporting of over 5o indicators.  The review will incorperate many of the lessons learnt from nearly 10 years of operating TOMM.

However, there are currently three Socio-cultural indicators reported by TOMM:

Indicator:
Percentage increase in residents stating that they can influence tourism related decisions

This indicator contributes to the following optimal condition:
Residents feel they can influence tourism related decisions

Indicator:
Proportion of Residents that feel they are able to access nature-based recreational opportunities that are not frequented by tourists

This indicator contributes to the following optimal condition:
Residents are able to access nature-based recreational opportunities that are not frequented by tourists

Indicator:
Percentage Increase in the proportion of residents that derive all of some of their income from tourism

This indicator contributes to the following optimal condition:
Growth of local employment in consistant

Other Socio-Cultural Indicators

There are three remaining indicators that TOMM collates data on through alternate sources, however current figures are not available.  These indicators include:
1) Number of petty crime reports committed by non-residents per annum;
2) Proportion of the community who perceive positive benefits from their interactions with tourists;
3) Number of traffic accidents involving non-residents per annum.

All three of these Indicators link to the following optimal condition “Residents feel comfortable that tourism contributes to a peaceful, secure and attractive lifestyle”
